Guide Overview of Business Rates

1. What are Business Rates?

Business Rates are charged on most non-domestic properties - mainly business properties - such as shops, offices, pubs, beach huts, car parking spaces, warehouses and factories, self-catering and holiday let accommodation and some home based businesses.
Properties exempt from rating include:

  • farm buildings and land (excluding buildings used as offices or for other business activities)
  • fish farms
  • places of religious worship
  • buildings used for training or welfare of disabled people

If your beach hut is your only non-domestic property, you will currently be entitled to a 100% discount

Business Rates pay for the same services as Council Tax.
