1. How business rates are calculated
In England, business rates are worked out by multiplying the rateable value of a property set by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) by the relevant business rates multiplier set by central government.
For 2018/19 these are:
the standard multiplier is 49.3p and
the small business rate multiplier is 48.0p.
Your bill may also be subject to transitional phasing.
