Due to our relocation to our new offices in Honiton we will not be accepting work experience placements between January – March 2019. From April 2019 requests will be considered on a first come first served basis.

What is work experience?

Work experience is a placement for a period of one or two weeks and is unpaid.

It provides you with a taster to work in a chosen field and to give you insight into whether you would like to make this your career in the future. You will be working with professionals who will show you the different aspects of the job, including the exciting and boring elements.

You should be prepared to interact with the team, help with tasks and demonstrate an enthusiasm for learning.

Past student experiences

At the end of each placement students are asked to complete an evaluation form. Below are some of the comments we've received:

Legal, Licensing and Democratic services:

I had a really enjoyable time. It was very informative and I learned about the different aspect of the legal departments work. I was made to feel most welcome.

The variety of working with legal, democratic services and licensing was fantastic. Thank you very much for a great week!

Planning and Countryside service:

Thank you so much for my weeks work experience with you. I really enjoyed it and everyone was so kind and helpful. I felt really wanted and part of the team. Thank you to everyone who gave me their time.

Environmental health:

Favourite task was Food Hygiene inspection, I found going off site very interesting and seeing different towns in East Devon.

Organisational Development:

I can't thank all the staff who interacted with me enough.  The friendly and inclusive attitude was hugely appreciated. I would certainly champion the department as an excellent provider of work experience and service.
