We are responsible for the maintenance of coastal defence assets at several locations along East Devon's coastline:

Beer

We maintain the breakwater at the east end of Beer beach, an asset designed to retain the beach.

Exmouth

The east end of Exmouth beach has many wooden groynes to retain sand in this area, while the length of Exmouth's frontage is protected by a seawall. The west end of this wall is a grade II listed structure and was originally built by famous engineer John Smeaton between 1841-42.

Seaton

Seaton's West Walk and adjacent cliffs are protected by a seawall maintained by us.

Sidmouth

Sidmouth is protected by five rock groynes which serve to retain sediment transported by the sea in addition to causing the early breaking of waves, reducing the impact on the shoreline.

Sidmouth promenade is also raised above the beach level and protected by a seawall maintained by us.
