7. Promote and develop Local Action Groups
Over a number of years the Local Action Groups in both districts have proved their worth in helping to reduce crime, disorder and anti social behaviour by acting as a multi-agency problem solving mechanism and opportunity to exchange best practice.
Although East and Mid Devon are very safe places to live, by working in Partnership and meeting to discuss local issues, the benefits are clear to see as there has been a year on year reduction in overall crime and anti social behaviour.
All LAGs meet on a regular basis and attendees include front line workers from agencies such as the police, health, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, Devon Youth Service, Youth Offending Team. In addition, councillors and staff from voluntary agencies also attend and are able to work together to resolve local issues.
The purpose of this priority is to ensure that LAGs continue to remain strong, well attended and serve their local communities. This is a period of great change for most agencies in a time of worldwide recession and major reductions in public service budgets and spending.
It is important to maintain a stance in the localities against crime and anti-social behaviour.
