What does the Scrutiny Committee do?

The Scrutiny Committee undertakes scrutiny of the decisions and performance of the Cabinet.  The guiding principles it follows for scrutiny are:

  • provides a "critical friend" challenge to the Cabinet as well as external authorities and agencies
  • reflects the voice and concerns of the public and its communities
  • takes the lead and owns the scrutiny process on behalf of the public
  • makes an impact on the delivery of public services

This committee is also the council's statutory Crime and Disorder Committee for the purpose of section 19 of the Police and Justice Act 2006.
