We have a number of legal powers to deal with noise problems.

Unfortunately in respect of rail noise, due to legal constraints, we are often unable to act.

For example, ours powers to deal with noise nuisance effectively exclude action in respect of most train noise.

Network Rail has been improving noise from the track by maintenance programmes and track grinding. However, these processes are often a cause for complaint - and we are unable to act as they are part and parcel of the running of a railway.

If the noise is  disturbance from track repair alterations, carriage refurbishment in yards and noise from goods yards, there will be circumstances where we have some powers.
