Young Devon work in partnership with supported housing providers and also provide a mediation service to support people to remain in the family home or if that isn't possible to find alternative accommodation.
We use Homemaker to assess affordability of current private rented accommodation or potential private rented accommodation if utilising the Rent Deposit Scheme and also to give advice on budgeting and help available.
Rent Deposit Scheme
To prevent homelessness, we have a Rent Deposit Scheme which involves a guarantee bond for help with the deposit and an interest free rent in advance loan. Eligibility for this scheme will depend on individual circumstances.
Our housing needs team can assist people with a support need into a supported housing project in order to meet their housing need, projects can include Alexandra House, St Andrews House, YMCA, Esther Community, Morwenna Court, Fernley, Howell Road.
Our housing needs team can make arrangements for floating support to be made available to people with a support need, including help with debts, finances, bills, setting up a new tenancy, moving.
Nightstop Devon provides emergency overnight accommodation for young people between the ages of 16-25. On a night by night basis young people are placed in the homes of hosts who have been trained in homelessness and have also been checked been checked and vetted.
To be referred you will need to come and see us either at the Town Hall in Exmouth between 9am until 1pm and 2pm until 4:30pm or the council offices at the Knowle in Sidmouth between 8:30am and 4:30pm. Spaces tend to get booked up quickly so the earlier you can visit the better.
