Councils work with fire and rescue service to deliver free training
Environmental Health staff at East Devon District Council are working with colleagues at Exeter City Council and in the Fire Service to deliver free training and awareness sessions for owners of Bed and Breakfast establishments.
The sessions will help B&B owners understand what they need to do to comply with fire safety orders and food hygiene legislation.
The events, which start on 27 January and run through until 12 February in a number of East Devon venues, will cover what business owners need to do to comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and Food safety & Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013.
Working with teams from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, staff at East Devon and Exeter will answer questions like:
• Do I need a fire alarm?
• I only have 3 bedrooms, so do I need to do a Fire Risk Assessment?
• What are the rules on food hygiene for me?
Councillor Iain Chubb, East Devon’s cabinet member for environment, said:
With a new holiday season just a few weeks away, this is the time for businesses to ensure that they understand and comply with any regulations that apply to their premises.
Whether it’s businesses on our world-class Jurassic Coast or in one of our many delightful inland holiday destinations, it’s important that owners comply with the latest legislation designed to protect the public.
Along with our colleagues in the Fire and Rescue Service, we want to make sure that people who run Bed and Breakfast businesses have the best possible chance of ticking all the regulatory boxes in good time before their first guests start arriving.
This will give B&B owners peace of mind and ensure that East Devon continues to enjoy a reputation for being a fantastic place to visit for an all-round fantastic stay.
