A new car park for visitors to the Thelma Hulbert Gallery is set to be created next week in Honiton

The 12-space short stay parking area will be located immediately outside the Gallery

East Devon District Council’s Cabinet (5 March 2014) decided to create this small parking area within the Lace Walk long-stay car park in an effort to support the Gallery.

A “maximum 3 hour stay” will be enforced for any permit holders using these 12 short stay spaces during the Gallery’s opening hours in order to minimise the disruption to those customers who currently use these spaces for long stay parking.

A small amount of enabling work is necessary so this section of the car park will be closed all day on Wednesday 25 March 2015.

Cllr Iain Chubb, cabinet member for the environment, said:

We want to increase visitor numbers to Thelma Hulbert  and ensure it is as positive an experience as possible with easy, well-signed access.  The Lace Walk car park will still provide ample space for other visitors to and residents of Honiton.  In addition we provide further car parking at other locations in the town and these will be clearly indicated on all our signage.

Contractors will outline the 12 short stay parking bays in blue with “short stay only” printed on the tarmac.  Temporary signage will be used until new “THG” branded signs are ready.

Signs are already in the car park indicating the changes and notices are being placed on car windscreens with the following message:

The 12 parking spaces in this section are becoming short stay only and a maximum stay of 3 hours will then apply to our permit-holding customers during the opening hours of Thelma Hulbert Gallery.
You can still park all day in the 27 parking spaces in the long stay section of this car park and alternative long stay parking may be found in our Silver Street (90 spaces)  and New Street (82 spaces) car parks.

We apologise for any inconvenience this change may cause.
