District Council’s Community Development’s harvest themed fundraiser will support new Link-in Together group
East Devon District Council’s Community Development team is hosting a harvest themed barbeque at Littleham Community Orchard, Bidmead Close, in Exmouth, on Saturday 3 October 2015 from 12noon to 3pm.
This is the community orchard’s first ever fundraising event and its aim is to help support Link-in Together, a new community group for Littleham and the surrounding areas, which is being run by Community Development.
As well as the barbeque, there will be guidance for tree guardians on pruning and a traditional apple press for people to have a go at making apple juice.
Other attractions include: music, a bouncy castle, face painting, arts and crafts, circus skills, donkeys, build-a-scarecrow and a raffle. All donations will go to Link-In Together.
Link-in Together is based at Clayton House Community Centre (Salterton Road, opposite Tesco) and will be running a fortnightly Community Cafe at Clayton House, from Thursday 24 September onwards. This is intended to be the starting point for many other community based initiatives.
Link-In Together’s aims are to:
- Create and maintain a regular community space
- Facilitate informal, community based help and support
- Be a friendly point of contact for all residents
- Help to improve lives of people in the area, at home as well as with the group
- Guide residents towards services they can access
- Encourage residents to take an active role in the community
Link-in Together is appealing for volunteers of all ages and abilities to help with the group. It is also looking for opportunities to work with other community groups and will be running regular educational and social sessions at Clayton House. The group will respond to the needs of the community through suggestions from residents.
We wish to encourage local people to see how they can help and support each other,
said Councillor Jill Elson, portfolio holder for sustainable homes and communities at East Devon District Council,
there’s a wealth of untapped skills and knowledge in the Littleham area, which could be used to help support the community in many positive ways.
