Local business support providers are encouraged to bid for new contract opportunity

East Devon District Council’s Economic Development team is working closely with Exeter, Mid Devon and Teignbridge local authorities as they seek a provider who can supply a comprehensive package of services to support their local businesses.

The councils want a supplier to provide services to support new and existing small and medium sized businesses. The providers will need to be able to give first rate assistance in business and financial planning, product development, marketing and referrals through activities such as workshops and one-to-ones.

Potential providers will also need to assist specialist rural businesses and give particular support to rural economy applicants for LEADER*  funding.

The new business service has specific targets which are shared equally across the four districts. There is also a strong emphasis within the tender on potential providers to secure match funding from the Local Enterprise Partnership’s European and Investment Funds’ pot which would double the funds for business support.

Councillor Philip Skinner, East Devon District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economy, said:

Working together with our partner authorities, we can combine our direct business support budgets to create the opportunity for the successful provider to lever £100k of match funding. This could potentially double our investment in local business support in East Devon. I urge local business support providers to tender for this key contract opportunity.

The councils have put the service out to tender and are currently seeking expressions of interest and the notice can be viewed via the government contract finder service.

The contract will run from April 1 and the closing date for tenders is 12 noon on Monday February 15.
