Come and learn more about reducing, reusing and recycling at craft activity on August 19
Cranbrook families are invited to a fun craft event making collages from recycling items this month – and it’s a great opportunity to find out all about East Devon District Council’s (EDDC) recycling and waste service too.
Although the activity at the Younghayes Centre on Friday August 19 (11.15am to 12.45pm) is for young ones, parents – and particularly new families to Cranbrook – will have the opportunity to learn more about what they are able to recycle.
All residents can collect their recycling in a green recycling box and blue food waste caddy which are provided by EDDC. The green recycling boxes are collected every week from the kerbside and in them you can collect paper, tins, cans, glass bottles/jars, batteries, plastic bottles and textiles. Food waste is also collected weekly in the blue food caddy where you can put any food that is cooked, uncooked, meat, fish, bones, egg shells and tea bags. Please either wrap food in newspaper or use a compostable liner.
Rubbish which cannot be recycled is collected fortnightly. This should be put out in the grey wheeled waste bin which has a white East Devon logo on the front. Bags left alongside the bin will not be collected. Please make sure lids on the boxes are secure to prevent materials from escaping and causing litter problems. Refuse and recycling containers can be put out the night before collection and we ask residents to bring them in within 24 hours after collection. If you do not have these containers please call EDDC’s Customer Service Team on 01395 571515 and they can order them for you.
Next year the council will be rolling out a new collection service for the whole district, where residents will be able to collect more recycling than ever before including cardboard, Tetra Paks and mixed plastics. These recyclables will include meat and vegetable trays, yoghurt pots and margarine tubs. Look out for more information about the new service in the Cranbrook area over the next few months.
The council also has a really useful smart phone app which will send you reminders about recycling and waste collection days tailored to your own address. The East Devon mobile app is free and is available to download for iphone users from the Apple App Store and for Android smart phone users from the Google Play Store.
