Features beautiful photos of the district’s country life

A stunning photographic calendar for 2017 which captures the very essence of the East Devon countryside is now on sale.

The East Devon District Council’s Countryside team held a competition earlier this year inviting photographers of all ages and abilities – from beginners to professionals – to send in their best photos for the calendar. More than 150 entries were received, featuring beautiful views of the district.

The calendars have two different front covers - one chosen by a panel from the Countryside team and the other - ‘The People’s Choice’ - voted for on Facebook.

The judges winner was Matt Willson’s image of Bluebells while ‘The People’s Choice’ winner was Laura Waddell’s photo of Exmouth beach at sunset.

Laura was delighted with her win and said she was really looking forward to seeing the calendar published. She said:

I love photography and particularly capturing the natural beauty we’re so lucky to be surrounded by here in East Devon.

As part of my prize I was able to attend one of the East Devon District Council Countryside events. I went on a canoe safari with Countryside Rangers and the Axe Vale Canoe Club. Everyone on the event was really friendly and it was great to be made aware of the wildlife in East Devon. I’m looking forward to showing my photography in print to my friends and family.

Cllr Iain Chubb, East Devon District Council’s portfolio holder for the environment, said:

The photography competition provided a great chance for people to capture what they love about the East Devon countryside.

The standard of entries was fantastic and the calendar produced is very high quality. I’m looking forward to having a copy on display throughout the year and think my family and friends know what to expect for Christmas! With all the proceeds going back into the management of the East Devon District Council Countryside sites it’s a worthwhile cause to support.

The calendars will be sold for £6 each with an additional £2 for postage and packaging and can be ordered online at or by contacting the Countryside team on 01395 517557. Alternatively you can email with your name and telephone number and you will be contacted to arrange payment and delivery.
