Service to be held at Sidmouth Parish Church on Sunday 11th December

Do you enjoy a Christmas Carol that holds a special memory for you? If so, the Chairman of East Devon District Council would like to hear from you and include your choice at the council’s first-ever Civic Carol Service which is being held at Sidmouth Parish Church on Sunday 11th December.

Cllr Stuart Hughes is appealing to residents of the district to help him choose the carols for the afternoon service which will also feature a choir of young songsters from Sidmouth Primary School.

Cllr Hughes is asking people to email their suggestions to him and, if they like, tell him why their chosen carol is so special to them

He said:

Christmas is such a lovely time of year for so many and we all have that one special carol that means so much to us. I’d like the people of East Devon to choose carols that mean something to them and, if it’s possible, we will include it during the service.

Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the event which is unique to us as we’ve never held a Civic Carol Service before.

Cllr Hughes, who is a ward councillor for Sidmouth Sidford, added:

I’m sure that the children  of Sidmouth Primary School will bring that infectious Christmas spirit to the service too.

If you have a carol that you would like to see included within the service, and if you would like to attend the event, please contact Maria Pearce either by email mpearce@eastdevon.gov.uk or call 01395 571695 by Wednesday 23 November.

The Reverend Canon Dr Philip Bourne will be taking the service at the church which begins at 2.30pm and a collection will be taken in support of Sidmouth Town Band to help raise funds for their new bandroom.
