EDDC-owned building will provide much improved service hub for town
As work starts later this month on the refurbishment of Exmouth Town Hall, visitors to the building are reminded that it’s business as usual - with just a few minor changes to accommodate the renovations.
The office will be open from Monday to Friday from 9am to 4.30pm and while the main entrance to the town hall will be closed, customers will be able to use the side entrance door. There will also be limited visitor parking and the car park will be closed outside of office hours. Work will start on Monday February 27 and is expected to be completed by November.
East Devon District Council (EDDC), who own the town hall, is carrying out the work to relocate key staff and services to the building after a recent survey showed that there is a clear demand for residents to be able to access housing benefit, council tax support and housing services advice in the town. The council’s Benefits and Housing Needs teams will be moving to the offices.
The reception area of the new building will feature new facilities for council customers who need to find out more about their services and this includes a ‘self-serve’ computer with access to the websites of EDDC, Devon Home Choice and Devon County Council. There will also be a phone linked directly to EDDC’s main headquarters at Knowle in Sidmouth so that customers from Exmouth can talk directly to officers in other service areas of the council.
Exmouth is the biggest community that the council serves and it’s important that we are on the ground to help local people access our services and get the help they need. Following the refurbishment, we will be opening up a fully modernised town hall which we want to be the high quality, welcoming service hub that Exmouth deserves.
