East Budleigh with Bicton Neighbourhood Plan will help shape future of the local community

East Budleigh with Bicton residents will have their chance to help shape the future of their local community at a referendum on 25 May 2017, the results of which will determine whether the East Budleigh with Bicton Neighbourhood Plan becomes part of the Development Plan for East Devon.

If a majority of those that vote in the referendum are in favour of the Plan then it will be ‘made’ and will become part of the Development Plan for East Devon.

The parish’s Neighbourhood Plan was produced by East Budleigh with Bicton Parish Council in consultation with the community and includes policies that will influence how planning applications are determined until 2031.

At the referendum on 25 May, voters will be asked to consider the following question: ‘"Do you want East Devon District Council to use the neighbourhood plan for East Budleigh with Bicton to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?"

If more people vote ‘yes’ than ‘no’ in this referendum, then East Devon District Council will ‘make’ the plan and it will become part of the development plan for East Devon. A person is entitled to vote in this referendum if:

• He or she is entitled to vote in a local government election in the Referendum area

• His or her qualifying address for the election is in the referendum area.

For those not already registered to vote, the closing date for registering is 9 May and details of how to register can be found om the East Devon Website.

The polling station will be the East Budleigh Village Hall.

Further information and a copy of the plan can be found on the East Devon website.

Mark Williams, East Devon District Council’s Chief Executive, said:

The Plan is a culmination of two years of hard work by volunteers from the local community and we are encouraging all residents eligible to vote in the area to ensure they are registered and to turn out to vote on the day. Should the referendum be successful, it will be the fourth Neighbourhood Plan to be adopted in East Devon following Lympstone, which was adopted in March 2015, Stockland and Bishop’s Clyst.

I am delighted that the East Budleigh with Bicton Neighbourhood Plan has reached Referendum stage. The steering group has shown a huge commitment to this task and has reached this important milestone in a very short period of time. The Plan will help to shape the future of these communities for years to come and I hope that all eligible to vote will study it carefully and take part in the ballot.
