98% of attendees rated events positively

East Devon residents and holidaymakers have given a huge thumbs up to this summer’s events run by the district council’s countryside team.

Of those who responded to questionnaires following the summer events, 98% rated them as very good or fairly good, and 99% said they were very good value for money or the right price.

Councillor Tom Wright, Environment portfolio holder for East Devon District Council, said:

We are fortunate to have a range of activities on offer throughout the year in East Devon. The survey results demonstrate the quality and broad appeal of the events delivered by the countryside team and the value to local people in terms of health and wellbeing. Despite the warmer summer months coming to an end, there are still lots of countryside events to choose from including woodland work-outs and wreath making.

One resident who took part in the questionnaire was Patricia Thumwood who attended the mud walk with her two grandchildren aged 8 and 5. She said:

We live in Ottery St Mary so we often walk around the Exmouth area, the mud walk taught us a lot of what is happening on the mudflats. The rangers running the event were excellent and gave enough information to make it exciting but not too complicated. My husband and I love nature so it is great to be able to take our grandchildren to Countryside events. We have attended a few events now and have been impressed every time!

During the summer, the team ran 66 events and worked with other local organisations including the Donkey Sanctuary and Seaton Jurassic to promote events taking place which aim to get people outside and enjoying the benefits of the East Devon Countryside.

The Team’s events included bug hunts and rockpool rambles as well as outdoor Tai Chi and yoga, providing something for all ages, incomes and interests.

Countryside team leader (People), Tim Dafforn said:

We aim to deliver engaging and inspiring events for local residents. During the summer period over 2,000 people attended our events and the feedback has been exceptionally positive. We have taken on board suggestions to improve events and will be considering new ideas so that we can deliver another exciting programme for 2018.
