East Devon District Council’s Community Buildings Fund will help pay for improvements to village halls in Newton Poppleford and Brampford Speke

Two East Devon community buildings have recently benefitted from £6,772 of funding from East Devon District Council’s Community Buildings Fund.

Newton Poppleford Pavilion will receive £5,000 to help pay for an extension to the building and a replacement kitchen in their busy hall. Their current kitchen is too small and very old.

Brampford Speke Village Hall has received £1,772 to help provide the building with much needed disabled access.

The Community Building Fund is an East Devon District Council grants scheme that has been running for over ten years. It helps fund projects for village halls, community buildings and community shops by offering grants of anything up to £5,000. Community buildings and community shops that are within an area covered by a town council are not eligible to apply. The scheme’s purpose is to help rural community buildings and community shops all around East Devon with funding for projects such as new or improved toilet facilities, kitchen facilities, roof repairs, heating and new door fixtures.

Councillor Ian Thomas, Chairman of the Community Buildings Fund, said:

I’m so pleased that we’ve been able to help provide funding for such worthy projects. It’s really important that our rural communities are supported, sometimes the village hall is the only meeting place.

The fund is closed to applications for the rest of the financial year.
