10. Budleigh Salterton
Budleigh Salterton is a picturesque town in the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Situated on the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, it has 2 miles of unique pebble beach which attracts swimmers and fishermen and each year there is a Christmas Day Swim when hundreds of brave swimmers take to the water. Towards the East end of Budleigh beach is the large and popular Lime Kiln Car park, which is a great start for walks along the coast to Sidmouth and Exmouth or up the River Otter to East Budleigh and Otterton.
An upmarket town brimming with fresh local produce, designer boutiques and stunning surroundings, Budleigh Salterton remains one of Devon’s most unspoilt and charming towns. Budleigh also plays host to Literary, Music, Jazz and Food Festivals, as well as a numerous clubs and organisations which appeal to all tastes, and there’s also the Gala Week during spring half term and the ever popular Late Night Shopping Event each December. There is a good selection of halls for hire ranging from the large Public Hall to the smaller Venture and Knowle Village Halls.
Located close to Budleigh Salterton’s town centre, The Green offers a beautiful large open access site, with a free car park at the southern end and a drop kerb for excellent vehicle access to the park. Popular for community events including the Budleigh Literary Festival and bi-annual Food and Drink Festival, the Green has potential to host a multitude of functions, including educational, community, charity and festival style events.
There is a small Victorian style shelter in the middle of the park, which could easily be used as a focal point for photos and any special occasion looking for a stunning backdrop.
The Green hosts a large electricity and water box, conveniently located in the centre of the park close to a large shrub border, for events that may require it.
