Feature Defibrillator installed at Exmouth Lawn Tennis Club thanks to Small Community Grant
A defibrillator can save someone's life if they have a cardiac arrest and having quick access to a defibrillator could be the difference between life and death.
When Exmouth Lawn Tennis Club applied for a Small Community Grant from us to contribute toward the instalment of a defibrillator, we were honoured to be able to fund such a vital resource for the local community.
In March 2023, the defibrillator was installed with the help from club members and Exmouth Men’s Shed. It is located on the outside wall of the clubhouse so is within quick access for members, most of whom are over the age of 60, as well as for use of the wider community.
The defibrillator was purchased from a charity called Jay’s Aim which was set up by the family of a 28-year-old man who tragically passed away from an undiagnosed heart condition. Jay’s Aim also delivered a free training course on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated electronic defibrillator (AED). 14 people attended from several clubs using the tennis facilities.
In an emergency, every minute counts, which is why this defibrillator is registered on the national defibrillator network, The Circuit, which direct the emergency services to its precise location.
While we hope this defibrillator never has to be used, it is reassuring to know that if it is needed, it’s available for everyone.
East Devon has a number of defibrillators across the District including Sidford Tennis Club, Ottery Scout Hut and Budleigh Salterton Games Club. Click here to find your nearest.
