9. How does the Beach Management Plan fit with the Shoreline Management Plan and Exe Estuary Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy (EEFCERMS)?

The Shoreline Management Plan outlines the higher level strategy for coastal management, and considers the wider impact of schemes on the rest of the coast.

Beach Management Plans are more localised and consider the implementation of the strategies outlined in the Shoreline Management Plan over the next 5 years.

East Devon is included in the South Devon and Dorset Shoreline Management Plan.

Exe Estuary Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy

The Exe Estuary Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy (EEFCERMS) was commissioned by the Environment Agency in 2013 and does include the Exmouth foreshore as part of its considerations of the future coastal flood risk and habitat evolution of the Exe Estuary.

This too considers potential schemes to improve flood and coastal risk management assets, however it was finished prior to the Exmouth Beach Management Plan, considers the wider Exe Estuary alone and also has an additional focus on habitat management.
