East Devon’s Economic Development Strategy (2024 – 2029) was created to address the most important challenges facing our local economy.

One of the key challenges is the lack of available industrial and logistics premises.

To help address this challenge and to improve the marketing of vacant and available business premises, we have drawn together information from different sources to help businesses find the workspace they need. 

Database of vacant business rated premises in East Devon

The Business Rates Service at EDDC publishes quarterly datasets of business rated properties in East Devon. 

The full list of properties holds information about the property address, rateable value, property description, liable organisation and whether it is vacant.

Those seeking commercial premises in East Devon can filter through the status of the property and identify if there are any vacant business premises in their preferred location (see column N in the spreadsheet). Then they can approach the liable party (the ratepayer who can be an owner or leaseholder) to seek details about the property and its availability.

Information can be cross referenced with details about the premises published by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA): Find a business rates valuation - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

The datasets are updated quarterly in April, July, October and January.

Property for sale or to let by EDDC

Our Place, Assets and Commercialisation team regularly publishes information about properties owned by East Devon District Council that are available to buy or lease. It also advertises any available commercial development opportunities, and markets available workshop units and office space.

Commercial Property Register

A Commercial Property Register is available for East Devon, Exeter, Mid Devon and Teignbridge which includes information on available offices, industrial units, shops, investment property, hotels, pubs, restaurants, leisure property and development sites.

Features include:

  • Full property particulars available for download.
  • Ability to search by size, by area or by date when the property or site became available.
  • Commercial agents' contact details for each property or site.

If you are looking for a property in a particular area, you will need a postcode, and for a more detailed search there is a requirement to register.
