How to book a burial
You can use our online form to provisionally book a burial, interment of ashes in one of our four cemeteries or a scattering of ashes in Sidmouth or Seaton cemeteries
The cemeteries we are responsible for are:
- Sidmouth cemetery
- Sidbury cemetery
- Seaton cemetery
- Seaton Woodland
Please be aware that your booking will only be provisional until we receive your completed Notice of Interment, for a burial Certificate for Burial or Cremation and payment. Once all documents have been received we will confirm your booking by email.
You'll need to pay a fee for this once the booking has been confirmed.
Any personal information which you provide will be held and used by East Devon District Council for the purpose of the licensing service to process your Burial application and administer any consent which is granted. Your information may also be shared within East Devon District Council for the purposes of carrying out our lawful functions. Otherwise your personal information will not be disclosed to anybody outside East Devon District Council without your permission, unless there is a lawful reason to do so, for example disclosure is necessary for crime prevention or detection purposes. Your information will be held securely and will not be retained for any longer than is necessary. There are a number of rights available to you in relation to our use of your personal information, depending on the reason for processing. If you have already purchased a space or a plot, you'll need to know the section of the cemetery and the grave space number.
You'll need to know the name, address and age of the deceased..
When we receive your provisional application to book a burial we will email you to confirm if the date and time requested is available or suggest an alternative date or time. We will send you a notice of interment that you must complete and return to us. The fee can be paid by BACS or a card payment can be taken over the telephone. We will also need the Certificate for Burial or Cremation that the Registrar would have given you or the certificate of cremation from the crematorium.
Please do not make any firm arrangements until you have received our acknowledgement that the date and times you have requested are available.
