Make a traditional willow weaved basket and take it home with you in a day
Learn how to weave willow with Richard from Windrush Willow.
Make a traditional willow weaved basket and take it home with you in a day! We'll be following all social-distancing rules and have lowered the capacity from 8 to 4 to ensure we can adhere to government guidelines.
The course starts with a Health and Safety briefing and an explanation of the tools and how to use them. We will start with a pre-made base supplied to make a 14 rib basket, students are shown how to fit this to the jig. Students are shown how to cut, slipe and insert the correct size and number of ribs for the basket they wish to make. Weaving is started with simple pairing and indeed pairing is used throughout the basket building up to multiple strands in each of the two groups as the space between the ribs increases. The basket s finished with a simple track border and twisted rush handles can be added if desired. Also, a base can be made for the next basket.
Please bring a packed lunch.
Cost includes all willow materials, expert tuition and hot drinks, fresh fruit and biscuits throughout the day.
