2. Dog control, seashore and promenades public spaces protection orders (PSPOs)

Dog controls

  • The dog control PSPO (dog control PSPO part 01); (dog control PSPO part 02); (dog control PSPO part 03) incorporates all the previous whole district requirements to clear up after dogs, keep dogs on leads in specified places and designate some areas where dogs are not allowed
  • Some changes to the areas covered have been made following public consultation, and in all there are 180 specified locations with specific dog controls in place
  • There is a new requirement for all dogs to be kept on a lead on roads and pavements
  • Dogs on leads and dog ban areas

Seashores and promenades

  • The seashores and promenades PSPO incorporates dog controls on the beaches and promenades of East Devon and a new requirement which will allow a fixed penalty to be issued to people feeding seagulls
  • Council officers and members of the public will provide information about situations which have caused concern to the environmental health team to follow up
  • We will take a proportionate response to the complaint taking into account all relevant information; there will be a strong emphasis on advice and education
  • Where a fixed penalty notice is appropriate the fine will be £80
