Information Information about cooling towers
Content
Under the Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers Regulations 1992 you may need to inform us if you have a cooling tower or evaporative condenser - for example, serving a air conditioning plant, or process cooling plant.
This is because Legionella bacteria can grow in these devices, and if people are infected they can suffer a serious, even fatal, form of pneumonia.
Eligibility criteria
Any person who has control of a premises or business where there is a cooling tower or evaporative condenser where water is exposed to the air must notify us. You don't need to let us if the device contains no water that is exposed to air and/or if the water or electricity supply to the device is not connected.
You may want to ask your service engineer if you are not sure if your device needs notification.
