5. Emergency rest centres
We have an emergency rest centre plan which sets out the procedure to be following if an emergency situation occurs within East Devon which requires a rest centre to be set up as a place of safety for local residents.
Staff from the Housing Service are trained to deal with such situations. The key purpose of the centres is to provide a place of safety for local residents. Staff will check who is affected by the emergency, how they are being affected, their immediate welfare and what steps can be taken to help them return to their own homes or find them short term accommodation while the emergency and its aftermath are being dealt with.
Staff running the centres will liaise closely with the local emergency services and the East Devon and Devon County Council Emergency Planning Officers.
