Sugar Smart encourages people to be smart about their food choices and try to reduce the amount of free sugar they eat. It’s not about being sugar free, but being Sugar Smart!

Sugar Smart UK is due to end in March 2024. It was a national initiative to improve health by reducing sugar intake, set up by Jamie Oliver's Food Foundation and Sustain [the alliance for better food and farming].

The Sugar Smart campaign worked to increase choice through food availability and reduce aggressive promotion of unhealthy foods. There are many ways to become Sugar Smart. Individuals, families and groups can see guidance and tips for re-thinking sugar intake.

Sugar Smart Devon has responded locally to this national initiative, by asking businesses and organisations to make it easier for people in Devon to access healthier choices.

Local organisations demonstrated their commitment and show how easy it can be to make a difference, including Exeter City Football Club, LED, Devon Norse, Fit Food and others. East Devon District Council pledged to take actions supporting Sugar Smart.
