EDDC recycling vehicle

Due to the ongoing national staff shortages that are being experienced by recycling and waste operators, collections across East Devon will unfortunately continue to be impacted.

This may mean some residents could see their collections taking place on a different day to their normal collection day on some weeks.

East Devon District Council would like to thank residents for their patience at this time and have set out a series of steps for people to check to see if their collection has been affected.

Any amendments to a collection will be notified to any affected resident via the East Devon ‘app’. These amendments will also be posted on to the council website www.eastdevon.gov.uk which will contain the most up to date information.

If a recycling collection has been missed, residents are asked to continue to leave the containers out whilst an attempt is made to catch up. If after 4 days, the collection has not been made, please take the recycling back in and place any extra out in carrier bags on the next scheduled collection day.

If a refuse or green garden-waste collection has been missed, please report this to the council via the website and our contractor will endeavour to collect this as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, bulky items collection service has currently been suspended to allow staff to be redeployed to assist with the recycling collections.

The national recruitment challenges at this current time mean that these interruptions to services may continue for the foreseeable future. If you or someone you know is interested in joining our recycling and waste teams, please contact James Gatter at Suez on 01395 234500 to discuss. We have opportunities for LGV Class 2 drivers, van drivers and loaders.

Councillor Geoff Jung, East Devon District Council portfolio holder for Coast, Country and Environment said:

“On behalf of East Devon District Council, I would like to thank all our residents for their understanding, whilst we continue to provide a recycling and waste collection service during these very challenging times.

"I would also like to thank our partners Suez and their whole team who have over the last 18 months kept our service going. However, just as we thought we were returning to more normal times, we are experiencing tremendous pressure because of short term staff shortages like every other service provider in the country”

“Please, please continue to recycle and please help our team sort and load by organising the recycling items within the containers”

“Thank you for your continued patience.”
