The Wild East Devon 2022 Events Programme has launched, including outdoor events across East Devon, from May to October 2022 plus a free ‘Queen’s Trail’ at Seaton Wetlands this half term.
The programme kicks off with Seaton Wetland’s annual plant & cake sale this Saturday 28th May, followed by Axe Vale & District Conservation Society’s Family Explorers at Colyton Community Woodland on Monday 30th May, Crafts and Creatures in Honiton on Wednesday 1st June & Discover Nightjars at Trinity Hill on Tuesday 7th June. More Nightjar walks are available in June, as well as the popular Canoe Safaris in July and August.
New for this year, medical herbalist Maggie Haworth leads a series of medicine walks throughout the year. Each walk will introduce new plants and stories as the seasons change. Join the next one on Saturday 25th June for a gentle walk through Holyford Woods, exploring the medicinal plants that can be found there. Hear some of the traditional stories of the plants, and learn about their historical use as medicines, as well as their current day applications.
Ever-popular family events return for the kids with bug hunts, stream dipping, a trail and craft activities. The Seaton Wetlands holiday club will also be back for two weeks of the summer holidays – more news on that soon. Children will explore the site, discover wildlife, make crafts and cook on the campfire.
For May’s half-term break, head to Seaton Wetlands to take part in the free “Queen’s Trail” to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee for 70 years’ service. Pick up your trail leaflet from one of our leaflet dispensers and search for crowns to crack the clues!
Why not explore Wild East Devon’s ten nature reserves from Axminster to Exmouth. All of the reserves are free for everyone to enjoy and open every day. Experience breath-taking views at Delderfield Community Nature Reserve in Sidmouth and investigate family-friendly boardwalks at Seaton Wetlands.
Councillor Geoff Jung, East Devon District Council’s portfolio holder for Coast, Country and Environment, said:
I am really excited that our Wild East Devon events programme is back fully in 2022 so don’t miss out! We live in a wonderful place and there’s something new to see and do every day.
Take part in outdoor events for adults, children and families in amazing local green spaces. Many events are low-cost so there’s never been a better time to get outside and appreciate nature in our outstanding environment.
