Work begins on Monday 7 August to upgrade Exmouth Tennis and Fitness Centre's carpeted indoor courts to cushioned acrylic surfaces.
Tess Findel-Hawkins, Exmouth Tennis and Fitness Centre's Senior Duty Manager, said:
"We are pleased to announce that Exmouth Tennis & Fitness Centre will be resurfacing our 4 Indoor Carpet Courts. There will also be an exciting new change to our surface, as we have made the decision to move away from carpet, and resurface with Proflex Acrylics. This new surface will be changing the game on our indoor courts, allowing for a new window of opportunities for our existing customers and aspiring players. We are incredibly grateful to East Devon District Council (EDDC) for investing in our facilities so that we can continue to provide tennis for the community and can’t wait to see our new courts."
Councillor Paul Hayward, EDDC's portfolio holder for Finance and Assets, said: "East Devon District Council recognises the importance of sport and recreation and the positive impact that it has on our resident’s physical and mental health. As part of the Council’s ongoing strategy to improve access to such facilities, and encouraging younger people to participate, I am delighted that funding has been made available to allow these courts to be re-surfaced, and that we are taking full advantage of innovative technology to ensure that these facilities deliver for our communities for decades to come. We look forward to seeing an East Devon player holding the Wimbledon trophy aloft in the very near future." |
