Business leaders listen carefully to speakers including Cllr Paul Arnott

Business leaders gathered at Exeter Science Park on 5 September to celebrate the 'clean growth' achieved in the Exeter and East Devon Enterprise Zone (EEDEZ) and plans for a net zero future.

Keynote speakers praised  the achievements in the Exeter and East Devon Enterprise Zone (EEDEZ) over the past 6 years, including investments of more than £100m on sustainable developments for healthier and more vibrant places to live, work, learn and play.

Sharing EEDEZ’s vision to deliver “a world-class, low-carbon environment for business success”, Cllr Paul Arnott (Chair of Exeter and East Devon Enterprise Zone Board and East Devon District Council Leader) revealed a new visual identity for the Zone.

Cllr Paul Arnott said:

The pioneering work that is taking place in the Exeter and East Devon Enterprise Zone is nothing short of remarkable. Celebrating the innovation the Enterprise Zone is helping to nurture, is long over-due.

The combination of the available facilities and the revolutionary research and development work being undertaken by the companies based here speaks to the opportunities to tackle the climate emergency head-on.

This really is an unrivalled location for business success.

EEDEZ is home to world class activity through the pioneering businesses there:

  • Remit Zero are disrupting the domestic heating sector. They have developed a zero-emission heat source named Cylo, designed to replace a traditional gas boiler. It is cheaper to use, easier to maintain and has a longer life. It can also be repurposed at the end of its life. It has been tested extensively and the first installations have been completed. Cylo is a low environmental impact, high performance product in storing energy – as hot water or heat. https://remitzero.co.uk/
  • Construction has started on Zeal’s new net zero hotel at Exeter Science Park. The sustainability-driven, 142-room hotel is due to open next year. It is aiming for a minimum BREEAM rating of Excellent, with a target of Outstanding. Solar panels will ensure that the hotel will generate all the energy it requires. https://zealhotels.com/
  • The Centre for Future Clean Mobility is partnering with businesses to develop low-emissions, high-efficiency integrated power systems for applications in the aerospace, automotive, marine, and rail sectors. Driving the next generation towards zero carbon. https://futurecleanmobility.com/
