New swings, climbing frames and slides are just some of the classics being installed in five brand new play parks across East Devon.
The old parks, in Budleigh, Beer, Exmouth and Honiton, will be completed replaced as part of a £400k district-wide revamp by East Devon District Council (EDDC).
To give children a sneak peek of what they are in for, EDDC has released artists’ impressions of all the areas.
The start dates for work to begin are as follows (weather depending):
- Lime Kiln, Budleigh – 19 February. Contractor Somerset Landscapes.
- Jubilee, Beer – 19 February. Contractor: SNC Southwest.
- Ashfield Close, Exmouth – 4 March. Contractor: Somerset Landscapes.
- Jerrard Close, Honiton – 4 March. Contractor: Play UK.
- Pale gate Close, Honiton – 2 April. Contractor: Somerset Landscapes.
The parks have all been designed with the help of the local town and parish councils, acting as community representatives to outline what they think residents would like.
Councillor Geoff Jung’s EDDC’s portfolio holder coast, country, and environment, said:
“It is fantastic to be able to announce there will be five new playparks across the district well before the summer.
“The designs look so exciting, featuring seaside themes – giving a nod to our coast – we look forward to seeing everyone enjoying them.
“We will be starting at Budleigh Salterton were there will be a toddler and junior area with some lovely climbing frames.
“At Beer, there is a pirate themed area with a slide and a ship climbing frame – although it wasn’t possible to include a swing (due to the space required, through the European Standards), we’ve selected the designs that provide the most play value, and that reduce environmental impact through recycled materials. We are confident local children and visitors alike will love the new facilities .”
