An exciting series of events is being planned in Cranbrook this year with the aim of supporting residents to be more active and helping the town to celebrate its 13-year anniversary.

The events are being planned by Move More Cranbrook, the Sport England supported programme that aims to help residents in the town to lead more active lives.

And following the success of events last year which include the town’s first ever Santa Run, the Move More Cranbrook delivery group is on the hunt for volunteers to help it deliver a programme of events in 2024.

Matt Rowett from Move More Cranbrook who lives in the town, is helping to organise the events and says that the group couldn’t operate without the support of volunteers.

“All of our events are run exclusively by volunteers in the Cranbrook community. Because we all live in or very near to Cranbrook ourselves, it means that we can put on a programme of events that we know people will want to go to.

“In the past we have delivered events such as our Santa Run and Buddy Boost events which have all been lots of fun and were very well received. It is wonderful to see our fellow Cranbrook residents enjoy them so much.”

Events planned for 2024 include a colour run and family fun day in July, aimed at all ages and levels of physical ability.

Move More Cranbrook steering group member James Bogue says that without the help of more volunteers, there is a risk that the events won’t be able to continue.

He added: “Regardless of whether somebody can give a little bit of time or a lot, we can’t deliver these awesome events without additional support. It’s a great team and we can assure anybody who wants to get involved that they’ll receive a warm welcome and we’d love to have them on board.”

The Move More Cranbrook delivery group is particularly looking for anybody who has experience of running or supporting events, as well as those who have an interest in physical activity. But they say that the most important thing is for their team of volunteers to have a positive attitude, and to be prepared to work alongside others.

On behalf of East Devon District Council’s three ward councillors for Cranbrook, Cllr Kim Bloxham said:

“Move More Cranbrook is a fantastic initiative for the town. It’s the perfect way to meet new people, get active and stay healthy too!

“We need more volunteers to help with Move More events. Whether you can spare a little time or a lot, please help these events to continue in our town.”
