East Devon District Council is pulling out all the stops to support local businesses with a new Carbon Action Programme, followed by a linked grant scheme due in the Autumn.
The Carbon Action Programme (CAP) is a free package of support for businesses and community organisations looking to increase profit while reducing their carbon footprint. Free one to one support will help organisations understand and measure carbon emissions. Specialists will then provide a tailored carbon action plan to identify straightforward actions to cut energy use, reduce waste and transition to a low carbon future.
Organisations taking part in the programme will then be able to apply to a carbon action grant scheme to help pay for decarbonisation equipment or projects recommended by their carbon action plan.
Cllr Paul Hayward, East Devon District Council’s Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economy and Assets, said:
"This £207k Carbon Action Programme is funded by East Devon District Council. Backed by our Climate Change Strategy, we’re actively taking steps to help local organisations reduce carbon emissions.
"Working with BIP and Cosmic, we’ve made sure that bespoke on-site support is a core component because we know how busy businesses are and the pressures they face to improve their bottom line.
"The icing on the cake will be the launch of a new fund in the autumn to help cover costs of recommendations in the CAP."
