Project funded by Heritage Lottery and East Devon District Council

A unique heritage trail which captures the history of eight much-loved East Devon parks and gardens is now open for the public to enjoy.

Helped by a £9,500 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, interpretation panels have been installed at each site detailing historic information pieced together by local communities and schools.

East Devon District Council’s Parks Team put out a public appeal for information and old photos to help them tell the story of each park and garden.

Alongside the panels is a trail leaflet which has been compiled with the help of local schools. The leaflets are available to residents through libraries, visitor centres and local museums. Roller banners have also been created for each of the museums to promote the historic information.

The sites are Blackmore Gardens and Connaught Gardens in Sidmouth, Beach Gardens and Manor Gardens in Exmouth, The Glen in Honiton, Canaan Way in Ottery St Mary, Seafield Gardens in Seaton, and The Green in Budleigh.

East Devon is very grateful to everyone who helped us to build a story around these magnificent parks and gardens. We received some lovely old photos and heard some fascinating stories too. This is an exciting project which we hope that both residents and tourists will enjoy.

Further information about the trail is available on the council’s website
