FAQs
Why has the winter parking offer changed this year?
East Devon District Council’s winter parking offer proves popular each year meaning that some of the car parks can be very busy. During the November 2023 – March 2024 winter offer, residents provided the council with feedback about the difficulty they faced when finding a parking space. One factor which placed extra pressure on Exmouth’s car parks was Devon County Council’s introduction of an extended permit parking zone in August 2023 within the Colonies area.
The council hopes that this year’s changes mean that it will be easier for residents to get a parking space, especially in towns with the busiest car parks, such as Exmouth, Honiton, and Sidmouth.
How has the offer changed this year?
There is a four-hour restriction at some short-stay car parks, and tickets purchased at these locations will not be transferable:
- Imperial Road, Exmouth
- London Hotel, Exmouth
- Exmouth Town Hall
- Sidmouth Ham East
- Sidmouth Ham West
- Roxburgh, Sidmouth
- Mill Street, Sidmouth
- King Street, Honiton
How does the offer affect people with an East Devon District Council car park permit?
An East Devon District Council car park permit can still work out cheaper than the winter parking offer. If you were to use your permit every day, it would cost you approximately 30p to park.
Why isn’t the offer all year-round?
The winter parking offer was introduced to encourage residents and visitors to visit their local towns during the ‘off-peak’ season when there are less tourists. The reduced car park charges are expected to boost trade throughout the season, in the run up to Christmas, and especially during the typically quieter months of January and February.
Why isn’t the offer limited to certain times of the day?
If the winter offer was restricted to certain times of the day, it would potentially lead to lots of parking demand during that period, rather than spreading that demand out throughout the day.
The aim of the four-hour limit at short-stay car parks in Sidmouth, Exmouth, and Honiton, is to free up spaces at the busiest car parks throughout the day.
