Information Parks Heritage Trail
Content
Background to the Project
This project started in 2016 to create a parks heritage trail to include 8 of our parks and gardens, celebrating the history of these beautiful sites through interpretation boards and a trail leaflet.
Interpretation boards have been created, each one unique to the heritage of the individual park or garden and a leaflet has been used to link all sites together to encourage the community and visitors to explore various parks and gardens and learn about the local heritage. This project has been funded by East Devon District Council and The Heritage Lottery Fund.
History
Research was carried out with the local community and schools to identify information and photographic evidence of each of these parks and gardens and highlight the history of the area.
Local school children have also been involved in taking images of each site so that these can be catalogued and stored at the Devon Heritage Centre for future generations.
The Interpretation boards and leaflet
Each of the 8 sites has an interpretation board and a leaflet can be obtained from the local library, tourist information centre or museum.
We hope that the project will make a difference to both the local community and visitors to the area by providing them with interesting information that will encourage them to visit other parks and gardens.
The school children have been involved with choosing pictures and drawing images of the areas that have been included in the leaflet.
