Join Mike Lock from the AV&DCS for a walk around Holyford Woods, We'll be looking at woodland plants - trees, shrubs and herbs - and how they make up the woodland structure, and how these woodlands were  used in the past to support many country activities. While the trees are still leafless, plenty of light can reach the woodland floor, and this gives an opportunity for many of our colourful  woodland herbs - Bluebells, violets, Wood Anemones, Dog's Mercury, Yellow Archangel and others - to flower. Bring a hand lens, if you have one. We will listen out for woodland birds like Blackcaps and Great Spotted Woodpeckers, too.

The visit starts with an introduction to the nature reserve where you will be greeted by local wildlife expert Mike who will introduce you to the fascinating nature and history of the woodlands. You will find out about all the reserve’s wildlife and you will also have opportunity to quiz Mike about what can be found in the water, trees and air as well as how the AV&DCS are involved in the reserve.

With a highly qualified and experienced local naturalist leading the way - learn all about the fascinating variety of wildlife that call the woodlands home, local and natural history of the area, relax and reflect, stay healthy and enjoy this gentle form of exercise and practice mindful walking to aid with gaining greater perspective, clarity and balance. Those booked on a walk could expect close encounters with insects, butterflies, nesting birds an much more.
