The Heritage Alliance is a comprehensive guide to sources of financial support (and more) for anyone seeking to undertake creative projects connected with the UK’s heritage.
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF)
HLF helps groups and organisations of all sizes with projects that aim to:
- conserve and enhance the UK’s diverse heritage
- encourage more people to be involved in, and make decisions about, their heritage
- make sure that everyone can learn about, and have access to and enjoy their heritage

Historic England
Historic England run a number of grant schemes to help with the cost of caring for all sorts of buildings, monuments and landscapes. They can also fund projects that help people understand and champion their heritage.
The Historic Houses Foundation
Grants of between £50,000 and £250,000 from The Historic Houses Foundation are available to support the preservation of buildings of historic or architectural significance together with their gardens or grounds for the public benefit. Registered charities, building preservation trusts and private owners can apply.
War Memorials Trust
War Memorials Trust have grants schemes that can assist with the repair and conservation of all war memorials. Depending on your project grants of up to £20,000 may be available at 50 per cent eligible costs with deadlines dependent on which scheme a project is eligible for.
Pilgrim's Trust
The Pilgrim Trust promotes the preservation of Britain's historical and intellectual assets through a grant scheme.
The Idlewild Trust
Grants of up to £5,000 from The Idlewild Trust are available for registered charities. The charities must be concerned with the encouragement of excellence in performing and the fine arts and the preservation for the benefit of the public of buildings and items of historical interest or national importance. The Architectural Heritage Fund
The Architectural Heritage Fund has grants and low interest loans available to charities for the conservation of scheduled or listed buildings, or those in conservation areas. For more information phone 020 7925 0199 or email ahf@ahfund.org.uk.
St Andrew’s Conservation Trust
St Andrew's Conservation Trust has grants available for the conservation, preservation and restoration of sculptures, monuments and other artefacts of historic or public interest, which are on or attached to a property which is a church, or owned by a charity, and to which the public has access. Clore Duffield Learning Spaces
Grants are available for museum, gallery and heritage learning spaces from Clore Duffield Learning Spaces. This could be for less than £5,000 for single rooms in local history heritage buildings to whole learning centres of up to £2.5m.
