Gas safety
If you smell gas in your home or your carbon monoxide alarm goes off, follow these steps:
- Open all windows and doors to let fresh air in.
- Turn off any gas appliances (like cookers or heaters) and leave the house right away.
- Don’t turn on lights or use any electrical switches.
- If you can safely reach your gas meter, turn off the gas using the emergency control valve (usually next to the meter).
- Once you’re outside, call Wales & West Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
- Do not go back inside until it’s safe.
