Waste generated by any form of business such as a shop, hotel or office is categorised as commercial waste and can not be collected directly by the council. The cost of collection and disposal of commercial waste is not included in business rates that you pay.

If you would like your commercial waste collected please contact a licensed commercial waste company to arrange collections. Business rates does not cover waste collection costs.

The government have provided details of your responsibilities when it comes to business waste and how to check if your waste carrier is legally registered to dispose of waste.

Under schedule 1 of the controlled waste regulations 1992, there are some exceptions whereby the council may be able to collect certain types of household waste. These include:

  • Place of worship
  • Town or Village Halls

Under schedule 2 of the controlled waste regulations 1992, there are some exceptions whereby the council may be able to collect certain types of household waste on a chargeable basis. These include:

  • Self-catering holiday accommodation (holiday lets)
  • Educational establishments
  • Childcare settings
  • Campsites
