2. Sanctuary Scheme

Many people, although they are under threat of violence, do not wish to move home as they may live near to their children's schools, friends, family and other support networks.

By improving the security of the home with professionally installed security measures, the Devon Sanctuary scheme aims to help victims of domestic violence and abuse feel safe and secure when they choose to remain in their own homes.

The scheme is not an immediate response to the problem but it is a long term solution to prevent homelessness and improve a victim's quality of life.  Every 'sanctuary' is tailored to meet the needs of the individuals involved.

Devon Sanctuary Scheme is available to victims that have been assessed as high risk and referrals are sent from the police after a crime prevention officer has visited the property.

The scheme is free to all tenants or home owners. The victim must be the sole tenant or owner, or be able to exclude the perpetrator of violence through legal means.
