We communicate with our drivers on a regular basis via email, taxi liaison meetings and posting updates on this website. It is important that drivers check their emails regularly for this purpose.

Hackney Carriage Fare Increase

The new proposed 10% fare increase for taxis licensed in East Devon has now been approved and takes immediate effect from 18th June, following the withdrawal of all objections.  All Hackney Carriage Vehicles should now have their meter recalibrated to reflect the new fare tariff.  Please read more on our dedicated page New Proposed Taxi Fare Tariff.

Safeguarding Training

The Council is committed to protecting the safety of those most vulnerable in our communities, and recognises the important role that taxi drivers play in relation to this as eyes and ears within the community.   In November 2023 it became policy that all East Devon hackney and private hire drivers complete Safeguarding Training.

The council has chosen the e-learning course 'Safeguarding Children and Adults at Risk' provided by Uniformed Transport Systems to meet this need, please go to our Safeguarding page for more information.  We do also have a discount code available to drivers which has been emailed - please contact us if you need this.

Existing drivers must complete this course and provide their completion certificate to the Licensing Department of East Devon District Council by 1st November 2024.  This can be sent by email to licensing@eastdevon.gov.uk

24th November 2023 - Taxi ranks proposals and consultation

The licensing committee agreed to consult with the taxi trade with regard to improvements and changes to the taxi ranks in the East Devon district.  We have sent an email detailing the proposals to all hackney drivers and proprietors.  Also published is Appendix A - Taxi Ranks Summary that lists the recommendations, along with Appendix B ENV6060 All Plans containing plans of each rank in the area under review.

The consult begins on the 27th November and finishes 8th January.  Anyone wishing to submit comments can do so via email to licensing@eastdevon.gov.uk or in writing to Licensing, Blackdown House, Border Road, Honiton EX14 1EJ
