1. Pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit
Please complete the online form by clicking on the blue start button below.
Before setting up your Direct Debit, how would you like to receive your Council Tax bill and letters?
If you currently receive a paper bill, why not switch and enjoy the benefits of going paperless?
- Help protect local services — every household that switches helps reduce printing and postage costs, meaning more funding can go towards essential, front-line services.
- Get your bill instantly — no waiting for the post and no risk of delays.
- Stay up to date faster — if your circumstances change, you’ll see the updated bill more quickly.
- Easier to manage — view, download or forward your bill whenever suits you.
- Reduce paper waste — going paperless helps lower carbon emissions across East Devon.
- More secure — your bill is protected behind a secure login, unlike paper letters that can be lost or misdelivered
f you are one of the growing number of residents receiving their bills by email, there is nothing more to do and please continue with the online form and set up a Direct Debit.
Direct Debit makes sure your instalments are paid on time and you don't need to fill in a new Direct Debit instruction every year. You can choose to pay on the 1st, 17th or 25th of the month and spread your Council Tax over 2, 10 or 12 monthly interest-free payments. The number may be reduced depending upon the number of months remaining in the financial year of April to March.
For example if you set up Direct Debit part way through the year but would normally want to pay over:
- 10 instalments (April to January) for the whole year, select 10 instalments and the system will work out a lower number of instalments. For example, June to January - 8 instalments.
- 12 instalments (April to March) for the whole year, select 12 instalments and the system will work out a lower number of instalments. For example, June to March - 10 instalments.
We do not currently accept Direct Debit on weekly or fortnightly instalments. For these, please ask your bank to set up a standing order.
If you have reached final demand stage, we need to talk to you before we can set up your Direct Debit as you have lost your right to pay by instalments. Please provide your mobile or landline so we can discuss reinstating them.
To change your Direct Debit payment date or bank details for Council Tax, you need to complete a new Direct Debit instruction. This new Direct Debit will automatically replace the existing one.
