Adoption
On 30 October 2019, Cabinet resolved to ‘make’ the Sid Valley Neighbourhood Plan so that it forms part of the Development Plan for East Devon alongside any other made neighbourhood plans, the adopted East Devon Local Plan 2013-2031, and the Devon Minerals and Waste Plan. The date of 'making' the Plan is 7 November 2019.
This was following the successful referendum on 19 September 2019, where 90% of residents who voted were in favour of adopting the Plan.

Referendum
A neighbourhood planning referendum was held for the Sid Valley Neighbourhood Development Plan on 19 September 2019. The question in the referendum was:
"Do you want East Devon District Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Sid Valley (Sidmouth) to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?"
The results were as follows:
Number cast in favour of a 'YES'
2140 (90%)
Number cast in favour of a 'NO'
227 (10%)
Turnout: 19.4%

Sid Valley Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group have prepared a referendum version of the Neighbourhood Plan and a Community Actions appendix to the plan.

Sidmouth Submission of Plan to Local Authority - Regulation 16
Sidmouth Town Council as the qualifying body prepared and submitted the Sid Valley Neighbourhood Development Plan (the Plan) to East Devon District Council. The Regulation 16 consultation ended on Friday 8 March.

Neighbourhood Area Designation
Sidmouth Town Council requested that the whole of their parish be designated a Neighbourhood Area. The designation was approved on the 31st March 2016.
